Integrating sport and performance training with indigenous knowledge
Our mission is to promote healthy living by integrating Indigenous knowledge and sport. We are dedicated to creating a space where Indigenous and non-Indigenous individuals can come together to embrace the wisdom of Indigenous cultures and learn the power of sport for holistic well-being.
The Meaning Of Zaagi’idiwin
Zaagi’idiwin translates to Love in the traditional language of Ojibway. Love has exceptional meanings. It could mean
loving yourself, others and every living thing on Mother Earth. As a community, we strongly believe zaagi’idiwin should be present to perform at the highest level of sport. Zaagi’idiwin in sport could look and feel in many ways like loving yourself, teammates, coach, audience, and the game.
About Us
In 2022, we had a transformative experience visiting remote Indigenous communities in Manitoba. We witnessed first-hand the lack of support and knowledge surrounding physical activity which impacted overall well-being and health of the people within the community. Despite limited resources, we saw the abundance of motivation and joy of young people in freely playing and appreciation despite minimal equipment available.
By offering guidance and teaching sports-related activities and basic movement skills, we empowered these communities to embrace long-term health and fitness goals. Our time in these communities was filled with a profound sense of Zaagi’idiwin.
